Xi Jinping Holds Telephone Talks with President Donald Trump of the US

  On April 24, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President Donald Trump of the US.

  Xi Jinping pointed out that Mr. President and I held meetings at Mar-a-Lago. Recently we had good telephone talks and reached important consensus, which is highly acclaimed by the two peoples as well as the international community. At present, the international situation is experiencing fast changes. It is quite necessary for China and the US to maintain close contacts and exchange views timely on major issues.

  Xi Jinping stressed that both sides should well implement the consensus we have reached and maintain a steady development momentum for bilateral relations. The working teams of both sides should enhance coordination to well prepare for Mr. President's visit to China this year, start relevant arrangement for the first round of four high-level dialogue mechanisms including diplomatic and security dialogue, comprehensive economic dialogue, law enforcement and cyber security dialogue, and social and people-to-people and cultural dialogue, promote exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, two militaries, law enforcement, network, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and local affairs, and strengthen communication on regional and international issues, so as to promote China-US relations for new progress.

  Donald Trump expressed that he had sound meetings with President Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago. He felt satisfied with the development of US-China relations and showed high respect for the Chinese people. It is of significance for both sides to maintain communication and coordination on major issues. He looked forward to another meeting with President Xi Jinping and expected his state visit to China.

  The two heads of state exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation. Xi Jinping stressed that China is strongly against any behavior that violates the UN Security Council resolutions, and hoped that the parties concerned keep restrained and refrain from acts that might escalate tension on the Peninsula. Only the parties concerned play their due roles and meet each other half way can the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue be solved and realize the denuclearization in the Peninsula. China is willing to make joint efforts with all relevant parties including the US, for the peace of the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia and the world at large.

  The two heads of state agreed to maintain close contacts through various channels and exchange views timely on issues of common concern.
