Xi Jinping Meets with WPK Delegation

  On June 1, 2016, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President Xi Jinping met in Beijing with the delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) led by Member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the WPK Central Committee and Director of WPK International Department Ri Su Yong.

  Xi Jinping welcomed the delegation sent by the WPK to China for briefing the 7th WPK Congress. Xi Jinping said that it shows the tradition of strategic communication between the two parties on major issues and also demonstrates that Chairman Kim Jong Un and the WPK Central Committee attach importance to relations between the two parties and two countries. Xi Jinping wished the people of the DPRK greater success in economic development, livelihood improvement and the construction of socialism cause.

  Ri Su Yong conveyed an oral message from Chairman Kim Jong Un to General Secretary Xi Jinping, and briefed the 7th WPK Congress. Kim Jong Un expressed in his message that the DPRK hopes to make joint efforts with China to strengthen and develop bilateral traditional friendship, and maintain peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.

  Xi Jinping stressed that China pays high attention to the friendly cooperative relations with the DPRK, and is willing to work with the DPRK to well maintain, consolidate and develop China-DPRK relations. Xi Jinping expressed that China's stance on the Korean Peninsula issue is consistent and clear. It is hoped that relevant sides can stay calm, exercise restraint, and enhance communication and dialogue, so as to safeguard regional peace and stability.
