Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Met with DPRK New Premier

Ambassador Liu Xiaoming called on Mr. Kim Yong-il, the DPRK's new Premier of the Cabinet, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang on June 11. They had a cordial and friendly conversation.

Ambassador Liu conveyed congratulations and warm greetings from Premier Wen Jiabao to Premier Kim. He said China-DPRK friendship was forged and nurtured by the founding leaders of the two nations and has withstood the test of time. Currently under the personal guidance of the top leaders of both countries, China-DPRK friendly and cooperative relationship has witnessed new developments in every field. It is the unwavering policy of the Chinese Party and Government to consolidate and develop this friendly and cooperative relations between China and the DPRK. China will consistantly work with the DPRK to advance China-DPRK relationship in all aspects.

Premier Kim asked Ambassador Liu to pass on his appreciation and sincere regards to Premier Wen. He said Ambassador Liu was the first foreign envoy he met with since he took office. Premier Kim said China-DPRK friendship has very long and fine tradition. The DPRK cherished this friendship forged and nurtured by the founding leaders of our two nations. Comrade Kim Jong Il attached great importance to the DPRK-China relationship. It is in the interest of peoples of both countries to develop this friendly and cooperative relationship. The DPRK would work together with the Chinese side in order to advance the bilateral relations.

The two also exchanged views on economic and trade cooperations between China and the DPRK.

Kim Yong-il, Vice Minister of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, and Xing Haiming, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy were present at the meeting.
