Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Held Reception for the "Day of China Pavilion"of the 10th Pyongyang Spring International Trade Fair

On May 15, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming held a reception for the "Day of China Pavilion"of the 10th Pyongyang Spring International Trade Fair.

About 170 dignitaries attended the reception, among them were Ri Ryong Nam, Vice Minister of Ministry of Trade of the DPRK, Chui Bei Jin, Vice President of Committee of National Planning of the DPRK, Lyang Jang Gyun, Vice Minister of Ministry of Construction and Construction Industry, Ri Hak Gwon, President of the Chamber of Commerce of the DPRK, and Mr. Yu Ping, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Also present were director-generals from 26 ministries including Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Finance, Central Bank and General Administration of Taxation, presidents from more than 30 Korea companies, representatives of the diplomatic missions in the DPRK and representatives of Chinese delegation and corporations.

In his address, Ambassador Liu said as a large-scale and comprehensive international trade fair hosted by the DPRK, the Pyongyang International Trade Fair (PITF) has been successfully held for 10 years. Both its scale and influence are on the rise. As an important window for economic exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries, the PITF has provided an important platform for the entrepreneurs from China, the DPRK and other countries to increase exchanges, deepen understanding and promote cooperation. The Chinese government has always attatched great importance to and actively support the PITF. With the help of the CCPIT, Liaoning and Jilin Provincial Government, more than 80 Chinese enterprises and 250 entrepreneurs are participating this session of the PITF. Among them are world-known enterprises like Haier Group, Konka Group and Changhong Group. The China Pavilion covers an area of 1000 square metres with exhibits from various sectors such as the electrical facilities, machinery, machine tool and fittings, household appliances, automobile, food, chemical industry, light industry, medicine and etc. All this fully demonstrated China's willingness to further develop the mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation with the DPRK and other countries.

Ambassador Liu said China and the DPRK are friendly neighbors. The two countries have great potentials for trade and economic cooperation. Our two countries enjoy political advantage in traditional friendship, geographical advantage in closeness and economic advantage in mutually complementary structure. In recent years, China-DPRK trade and economic cooperation has witnessed thriving development thanks to the active guidance by government, vigorous promotion by non-governmental organizations and passionate participation by enterprises. To develop the China-DPRK trade and economic cooperation not only serves the interests of both peoples, but also is conducive to the economic development and prosperity in the region. China is willing to work with the DPRK to carry out the consensus by the top leadership on strengthening trade and economic cooperation in the new situation by fulfilling the potentials with greater scale and higher level of cooperation so as to enhance mutual benefit and common prosperity for the two countries.

On behalf of the DPRK side, President Ri Hak Gwon expressed his thanks to the Chinese side for years of support and help to the PITF. He said the DPRK people cherished the DPRK-China friendship very much, and is sincerely happy for the great achievements in the construction of the well-to-do society by the Chinese people. With the increasing and active economic and trade cooperation between the DPRK and China, the PITF would play a bigger role in deepening the DPRK-China friendship and promoting the bilataral economic and trade cooperation.

On May 14, Rho Du Cheol, Vice Prime Minister of the DPRK attended the opening ceremony of the PITF. Enterprises from 14 countries including China, the DPRK, Russia, Italy, Poland, Australia, Bangladesh, Germany, Netherland, Switzerland, Syria and Indonesia participated this session of the PITF.

The exhibition ended on May 17.
