PYONGYANG, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) elected Kim Yong Il as the new premier of the Cabinet, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Wednesday. Kim, who replaces Pak Pong Ju, was elected in the fifth session of the 11th Supreme People's Assembly held earlier in the day at the Mansudae Assembly Hall, according to the KCNA. Kim Yong Chun, Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, was elected vice-chairman of the National Defense Commission (NDC) of the DPRK at the session. Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the NDC of the DPRK, attended the session, the KCNA reported. As DPRK's supreme legislative body, the Supreme People's Assembly holds its convention every year on the country's economic development, financial budget and state accounts. |
