PYONGYANG, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong-il, the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), inspected some industrial facilities in Kanggye, the capital city of Jagang Province, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Saturday.

The KCNA report didn't say when Kim started his inspection in Kanggye.

Kim, accompanied by several officials of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, was briefed on the operation of the newly constructed Hungju Youth Power Station No. 2 before visiting a wine factory and a duck farm, the KCNA said.

"He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the builders have successfully built this structure of eternal value," the report said.

During his trip, Kim also enjoyed "a bird's-eye-view of night scenery" of Kanggye, which was called one of the eight scenic views in the "army first" era, according to the KCNA.

The visit was Kim's first public appearance since May 6, when he inspected an army unit.
