Hu Jintao Meets with the DPRK State Delegation

On the afternoon of October 19, 2004, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) & President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Hu Jintao met with the sate delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) headed by President Kim Yong-nam of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Presidium at the Great Hall of the People. The two sides held cordial and friendly talks.

Hu Jintao said that there is a profound traditional friendship between the CPC and the DPRK Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and between the two countries and peoples, which was established and cultivated by leaders of the older generation of the two countries, has experienced tests of history and time and has become our common precious treasure. In recent years, under the direct instructions and promotion of leaders of the two parties and countries, the two sides have reached a range of important consensus on developing China-DPRK relationship in the new century, which injects new vitalities into the development of bilateral ties in the new situation. The Chinese Communist Party and government attach great importance to China-DPRK ties. China would like to work along with the DPRK to continue stepping up efforts in strengthening friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and countries in various fields and keep closer bilateral coordination and cooperation in regional and international affairs based on the principle of "carrying on the tradition, looking into the future, maintaining the good neighborliness and friendship and strengthening cooperation", in order to further push forward the development of China-DPRK good-neighborly friendly cooperation and bring benefits to the two countries and peoples.

Kim Yong-nam noted that the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties is of important significance to the development of China-DPRK relationship in the new century. The DPRK highly commented the Chinese Communist Party and government for following the friendly policy towards it for a long period of time and in the current complex and changeable international situations, the DPRK will carry and develop the bilateral friendly tradition and more strongly push bilateral friendly cooperation to a new level, which is a consistent policy of the WPK and government of the DPRK.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. Both sides indicated that they will commit to realizing the denuclearization of the Peninsula and continue seeking peaceful resolution of this issue through dialogue so as to safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.

Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo, Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Wu Donghe and some other officials attended the meeting.
