On May 24, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel of Germany jointly met with the press after their talking in Beijing.

  In response to question on the Korean Peninsula situation, Wang Yi expressed that at present, the Korean Peninsula situation has stepped into a sensitive stage, in other words, it has entered a critical period gestating changes. Good news comes alternatively with bad news. In view of this, the first thing is to adhere to principles to tackle the Peninsula nuclear issue, and the priority is to stick with the general direction of denuclearization all the while. China resolutely opposes the action of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to carry on nuclear missile development, and will, together with all parties, strictly well implement the UN Security Council Resolution concerning the DPRK.

  Secondly, the overall situation should be taken into consideration. The overall situation refers to the peace and stability in the Peninsula. No one is entitled to put the Peninsula at war, and much less assuming the historical responsibility of bringing disasters to the region and even the world.

  Thirdly, the flexibility and practicality need to be considered. Actions and measures of each party should be altered based on the changing of situations to keenly seize all the opportunities in favor of resuming dialogue and negotiation instead of sticking to the obsolete and rigid stance. We should showcase the flexibility timely, release sincerity and bring the Peninsula issue back to the right track of peaceful dialogue at an early date.

  Wang Yi expressed that China is currently implementing all the resolutions of the UN Security Council in a comprehensive and full manner, meanwhile, China also proposes feasible suggestions to resume dialogue and negotiation in accordance with the spirit of the UN Security Council resolutions. China will continue to play a constructive role to this end.
