Xi Jinping Holds Telephone Talks with President Donald Trump of the US

  On the morning of April 12, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President Donald Trump of the US.

  Xi Jinping stressed that I was very pleased to hold telephone talks with Mr. President. Not long ago, Mr. President and I held meetings at Mar-a-Lago, and we achieved important outcomes, which is highly acclaimed by the Chinese people as well as the international community. I thank Mr. President for your warm reception and considerate arrangements.

  Xi Jinping pointed out that we conducted in-depth communication on China-US relations in the new era as well as major international and regional issues at Mar-a-Lago, and reached important consensus. Mr. President and I further got to know each other, and we established sound working relationships. For the next step, both sides should advance the implementation of the 100-day plan on economic cooperation through the four high-level dialogue mechanisms including diplomatic and security dialogue, comprehensive economic dialogue, law enforcement and cyber security dialogue, and social and people-to-people and cultural dialogue, expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation in such aspects as militaries, law enforcement, network, people-to-people and cultural engagement, strengthen communication and coordination in major international and regional issues, strive for gaining early harvests as many as possible, inject new impetus into the development of bilateral relations, and make joint efforts to promote world peace and development. The work teams of the two sides should intensify cooperation, and make sure that Mr. President's visit to China within this year will achieve fruitful outcomes.

  Donald Trump expressed that he was very pleased to receive President Xi Jinping and hold the meeting between both heads of state at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The meeting was fairly successful. It is important for the two heads of state to maintain close contacts. He agreed that the US and China should make joint efforts to expand practical cooperation in extensive fields, and looked forward to paying a state visit to China.

  The two heads of state exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation and other issues of common concern. Xi Jinping stressed that China insists on realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, sticks to safeguard the peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, advocates to solve problems through peaceful means, and stands ready to maintain communication and coordination on the Korean Peninsula issue with the US.

  As for the Syrian Issue, Xi Jinping pointed out that any use of chemical weapons is unacceptable. Both sides should adhere to the direction of a political settlement of the Syrian issue. To uphold unity in the UN Security Council is of great importance to settle the Syrian issue. It is hoped that the Security Council could speak with one voice.

  The two heads of state agreed to maintain close contacts through various channels.
