On september 11, 2006, Liu Xiaoming, the newly-appointed Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, presented his letter of credentials to Kim Yong Nam, the President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

After the ceremony, President Kim Yong Nam had a friendly conversation with Ambassador Liu. Kim Yong Nam said that the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK Government attach great importance to China-DPRK relations. It's a firm and consistent stand of the DPRK to further the friendship with China, which is not only in the interest of both peoples, but also conducive to the stability, security and development of the Northeast Asia and the world at large. He hoped that with the joint efforts from both sides the China-DPRK friendship and cooperation would be further developed He sincerely wished the Chines people new achievements in the cause of constructing the well-to-do society and realizing the reunification of the motherland. President Kim also gave his special thanks to the Chinese Government for the humanitarian aid to the DPRK following the severe flood this year fall in the DPRK.

Ambassador Liu said that China and the DPRK are friendly neighbors. The China-DPRK friendship was forged and nurtured by the founding leaders of our two countries. It is the unwavering policy of the Chinese Party and Government to consolidate and develop the friendly cooperative relations between China and the DPRK. The Chinese side would like to work with the DPRK side to carry out the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries in the spirit of "inheriting the tradition, facing the future, nurturing good-neighborliness and enhancing cooperation" with a view to advancing China-DPRK relations.
